You can’t just make me different and then leave. You can’t. You can’t change me and make my whole life centered around you, then leave.

people are talking about abortion in america and stuff, but they are completely ignoring what’s happening ireland. as of right now abortion is and has always been illegal, women have to go across to the UK in order to have a safe abortion.

even then, that’s not always allowed. in 2007 a 17 year old girl was prevented from going to britain for an abortion when she learned the foetus had a severe condition and would probably not survive the birth. (she was eventually allowed to travel when the High Court over ruled)

just last year Savita Halappanavar died when she was denied an abortion, even though she was having a miscarriage. she asked several times for a termination but because the baby’s heart was still beating, she was refused. the nurses said to her, and i quote, that “this is a catholic country” which lead to her losing her life.

currently the government are trying to bring in some form of legal abortion, which basically only allows those whose lives are at risk get an abortion. this includes suicidal mothers, but they may need to be screened by four different psychologists in order to be granted one. women will basically have to jump through hoops to get a legal abortion in their own country.

right now around dublin the opposition have posters up of women who look about 8-9 months pregnant saying things along the line of “abortion doesn’t save lives, it is murder”. there are also posters such as this (which also got destroyed ) there’s also this

but the scariest thing is the sheer shocking amount of anti-abortion support there is in ireland. there are marches and vigils and people handing out leaflets against abortion. people are even using their kids, who have no idea what they’re standing up for.

people of ireland need to be educated about the facts of abortion and why it’s important to have safe, legal abortion in the country. people of tumblr, let’s get on it.

There’s a man called The Doctor. He lives on a cloud in the sky, and all he does, all day, every day, is to stop all the children in the world ever having bad dreams.
